Happy New Year to you all!  We hope the first part has been good to you.  We played some interesting shows and met some great people on our Western tour back in September.  Since then we have been working on our new album and taking a bit of a break.

If you're in the Montreal area, make sure to check our Sightings area to see where Gilles is playing.  He is currently living in Montreal, checking out the Eastern Canadian scene and writing a bunch of new music.

Ted is currently touring with Tegan and Sara's band, in support of their new album.  Be sure to say hi to him when they come to your town!

Tom is sitting in with various bands around Vancouver Island and the mainland, and enjoying his new drums.

And Al is currently recording and writing with December Pussycat and her band.

Our hope is to have a new Ghost of Science album ready for release come Spring 2005 and a series of small tours to support that new album.  Thanks to everyone for your patience and support.  Perhaps we'll see you all at a show soon!

September 10th, 2004

Ghost of Science embarks on our Western Tour with our first out of province show at The Sidetrack Cafe in Edmonton on the 16th.  You can check out all of our dates at the Sightings page.  We hope to see you out there!

As you can see on the Media page, we're getting spins on College Radio across the country.  Don't be left out!  Let your local radio station know that you want to hear Ghost of Science today!

Happy Canada Day!  You might still be able to get tickets for the show tonight at The Upstairs Cabaret.  The evening starts with Girl Nobody, with Ghost of Science in the middle and a guest performer closing out the night.  DJ Mischiff will be present for the whole evening, to make sure there's no musical gaps all night.  For more info, and ticket information, please check out the sightings section of the site.

Hey there!  Sorry to have been so quiet lately, but as you can see, we've been busy.  A site redesign, more dates, new songs and recording has been taking up our time.  Feel free to look around the site and let us know what you think.  The forum is going to be changed to match the site more, but for now, it is what it is.

Please sign up for the mailing list, if you haven't already.  We plan to do a mail out in the next couple of days highlighting what's been going on and what we're up to in the next while.  For now, the All-Ages show is coming up on Saturday, June 19th.  Advance tickets for that are available and going fast.  We've also got our acoustic opener at Lucky Bar on Thursday, June 24th.  And of course, the big Canada Day show in July 1st.

Be sure to check out the sightings section of the site for more information on upcoming shows!

May 20th, 2004

The Newsletter went out today.  If you didn't get it, then you need to sign up for our mailing list.  We've got our show at Lucky Bar on Thursday, May 27th with The Fine Options.  More details on that and other shows can be found on the Tour Schedule.

Speaking of which, the All Ages show that was supposed to happen for the end of May has been postponed as the organizers try to find a new venue.  Look for it re-appearing sometime in June.

Congratulations to our friend Jeremy Fisher on his recent signing to Sony Music Canada.  It couldn't have happened to a nicer, or more deserving guy.

May 13th, 2004

We've been hacking away at a bunch of new songs and preparing to do some summer/fall dates off the Island.  The date of the All-Ages show has changed to May 29th, and may change yet again.  Stay tuned for any updates.

The newsletter should be going out soon as well, so if you haven't already, be sure to sign up to our mailing list so you know all the good stuff before everyone else!

Also, Take On The World from [safe] has been rising the Pop/Rock charts at Garage Band dot com.  And speaking of [safe], if you haven't got your copy yet, it's been selling like crazy at CD Baby and off the stage at our shows.

On January 22nd, Gilles was part of the Bluebird North Songwriters Showcase.  Below is a recollection of his personal experiences for your reading pleasure....

"For those of you who are interested, the Bluebird North is a songwriters showcase that is sponsored by the SAC (Songwriters Association of Canada) that highlights, semi-annually, a healthy spectrum of today's shiny songwriters and performers."

"Which is why, after playing a few songs in last month's Bluebird, I wondered why I even got to be involved."

"The calibre of entertainment was staggering... with appearances by Ron Hynes, Carolyn Arends, Gary Comeau, Beverley Elliott and Rebecca Jenkins.  I don't commonly pee my pants, but I was surrounded by professionals and music lovers of the highest order."

"Now... I choked.  Yes, it was awful."

"I swear you could hear my heart beating through my voice.  Both the audience and the other performers were very supportive, which kept me from running off the stage into traffic, and incidentally, made this my favourite musical experience to date.  Even Paul Myers, of Mojo Radio, expressed interest and honest-to-goodness excitement about the songs I played."

"Some highlights during this evening of blissful embarrassment included an unexpectedly infectious performance from Carolyn Arends, and a legendary sing-along with Ron Hynes."

"The nitty-gritty of what makes the Bluebird a really cool experience, from a newbies' perspective, is the ability to listen to the performances from on-stage.  You sit there in awe of the person beside you and just try not to drop your jaw too often.  The other truly great element is the audience.  They are there to hear the music, sorry... LISTEN to the music.  They'll wait for the very last subsonic wave to decay before even breathing, much less applauding, and that really makes the songs worth writing."

"A HUGE thanks to Sheri Ulrich for all the heart she obviously puts into producing this event, and for taking a leap of faith by letting me experience this years' showcase from the stage."

- Gilles

A new show has been added:  Friday, January 30th at The Media Club in Vancouver.  We will be opening up for The Paperboys, so come early if you want to catch our set.  Doors open at 9pm and the cover is $10.

And don't forget about the following Saturday, January 31st as we rip up the stage at The Cambie in Victoria.  Again, the doors open at 9pm and the cover is a mere $6.  The show openers are Victoria's New Wave Starchildren, Immaculate Machine.  You don't want to miss this one, people!

Be sure to check back at this space for a recap of the Bluebird North Songwriters Showcase, as seen through Gilles' own eyes and ears.  You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh again.  It's a treat for young and old alike!   Coming soon to... well, here.

January 13th, 2004

Gilles will be a part of the Bluebird North songwriters tour this year.  Here is an excerpt from the press release:

Bluebird North:  Where Writers Sing and Tell kicks off the New Year on January 22nd with yet another wonderfully diverse line-up of Canadian songwriting talent.

This thirty-fifth Vancouver edition of the popular songwriters showcase will be hosted by local musician and media personality Paul Myers, and will feature the classic folk of Ron Hynes (all the way from Newfoundland!), as well as the soul-stirring, engaging songs of WCMA 2002 Songwriter of the Year Carolyn Arends, the high-energy blues/zydeco/Latin rhythms of Gary Comeau, the earthy country-folk of Beverley Elliott, the alternative rock of Victoria-based Gilles Maillet, and the passionate voice of Rebecca Jenkins (perhaps best known to Canadian audiences as the star of Anne Wheeler s 1989 hit film Bye Bye Blues).

Brought together on the Bluebird North stage, these musicians are guaranteed to become even more than the sum of their individual parts.

And as usual, audiences can rest assured that the songwriters and the often hilarious anecdotes that accompany their music will not have to compete with the usual night club hubbub:  Bluebird North, like the famous café in Nashville which inspired the series, is an honest-to-goodness listening room.  It s a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some very talented performers.

So, you heard it here first!  For more information, please check out our Shows page or click over to www.songwriters.ca.

January 10th, 2004

Some updates for you:  Our next show in the Vancouver Island area is in Esquimalt (5 mins from Victoria) at The Cambie on Saturday, January 31st.  More information can always be found in the shows section of the site.  If you'd like to check out The Cambie tonight, Gilles and Al are playing a last minute opening set for our friend Tom Hooper.  The cover tonight is only $3 and the doors open at 9pm.

Also, the message board is now a happy part of the website, rather than its own entity.  Thanks Jason for all the help with this one!

With the message board out of the way, we're going to tackle the Media section and the Store next.  If you have any pictures of the band you'd like to share for the media page, please send them to us here.  Any contributions are appreciated.

Last, and definitely not least, we've got 4 demo tracks up on New Music Canada for your listening pleasure.  There's three brand new songs there, so make sure you check them all out.  We'll be posting more songs up there when they're available.

January 1st, 2004
